Urban Explorers Day Camp Introduces Enrichment Curriculum with Day Trips Throughout the City

'The traveling day camp.'

Urban Explorers Day Camp now offers an enrichment curriculum for all ages to go along with New York City field trips.  Campers will partake in a variety of activities that teach music, karate, theatre, and basketball, taught by the current coach of a local high school basketball team.

Beginning July 2, Urban Explorers will welcome children ages 4 to 14 to a day camp located in Marine Park Brooklyn. Campers will partake in a variety of activities that teach music, karate, theatre, and basketball, taught by the current coach of a local high school basketball team. Camp runs through August 24, and the hours are 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday. Pick-up transportation is available from 7am to 8:30am.

Dubbed a 'traveling day camp,' Urban Explorers also allows kids the opportunity to traverse their city and enjoy visits to the Bronx Zoo, Adventureland amusement park, the Museum of Natural History, and a Mets baseball game.

Urban Explorers offers a unique summer program that merges an enrichment curriculum with classic camp fun. Kids partake in a series of instructional courses on a variety of skills, such as music, karate, theatre, and basketball, a choice favorite taught by the current coach of a local high school basketball team. All course instructors are experienced educators certified by the New York board of education.

“We offer structure, but the kids don’t feel it,” says Director Chris DiGennaro, who took over Urban Explorers in summer 2016. Prior, his father ran the camp for over 40 years, establishing a well-developed curriculum DiGennaro seeks to uphold.

The afternoons then give way to a slew of activities, including DJ dance parties, arts and crafts, movies, and cookouts. Campers also learn water safety and basic swimming skills at a local YMCA pool.

“We really believe that the kids need to explore and become citizens of the city they live in,” says DiGennaro.

In addition, Urban Explorers prides itself for its affordable and all-encompassing prices. All trip and transportation fees are included in the cost of tuition, and parents can partake in one of several no-interest payment plans.
