NYC Music School Offers World Music and Dance Camps

Turtle Bay Music School, a music school in Manhattan for children and adults, is adding world music and dance programs to is summer camp offerings.

Turtle Bay Music School
, a nonprofit New York City community music school for children and adults, is adding World Music and Dance camps for students of all ages to its schedule this summer. Camp students will explore the vibrant cultures of Colombia and Brazil through the study of music and dance.

Campers in the Colombian music and dance program will be immersed in rhythms such as cumbia and vallenato, and will learn the basics of the Spanish language through songs. Students who choose the Brazilian music and dance camp will explore different Brazilian instruments, songs, and dance, including samba, orixa, and maculele. Students will also learn basic Portuguese during this program. Camp faculty members, who are active in the Colombian and Brazilian communities in NYC, are an especially valuable resource for students, says Mia Kang, a marketing associate at Turtle Bay Music School.

The Colombian camp option will run from June 29- July 9 and the Brazilian camp option will run from July 13-23. Both camps will run during the afternoons from 1:30-4:15pm and may be combined with one of the school’s morning offerings, including any of its piano, strings, or voice camps.

Registration is now open. Camps run on a weekly basis, and students can enroll in one or more weeks in any combination. Turtle Bay Music School offers a 10-percent discount when registering with a friend.

Along with the new camps, Turtle Bay delivers a multitude of free programs, scholarships, and public performances year round. On June 6, the school is hosting a free family-friendly musical performance of Adventures in the Enchanted Forest: The Dragon’s Fire.
