Street Games is Returning to Thomas Jefferson Park in East Harlem

Free fun and games in one of Manhattan's best parks!

Street Games is back for its 11th year and with Disney as a sponsor, you know New York kids are sure to have a blast. This fun outdoor event brings old-school games to new-school kids. From double-dutch to hula hoop the New York City Parks Department is bringing the best games from the 60's and 70's to East Harlem's Thomas Jefferson Park.

This free event will be happening on April 28 from 11-3pm and is fun for the whole family. Kids can play, learn some vintage games, take a skateboarding clinic, or watch performances by a yo-yo master, hip-hop breakdancers, and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. No need to register, just show up ready to play! Some of the more popular events for younger kids are the Hippity Hop races, while older kids can be seen shredding on the makeshift skate park.

If you grew up playing stick ball or hopscotch this event is sure to bring back some great memories. New York City is known for its street games and we love that our kids can now take part in some of the City's unique history.

Games include:

  • Pogo Sticks
  • Hula Hoops
  • Double Dutch
  • Hippity Hop
  • Yo-Yos
  • Box Car Derby
  • Jumbo Games
  • Obstacle Course
  • Imagination Playground
  • Ultimate Disc
  • Wheelchair Basketball

The games are open to children of all ages and abilities. If you have a question about accessibitiy contact Chris Noel at 718-760-6831 or [email protected].

When you first arrive make sure you stop at the NYC Parks booth to pick up your Street Games Passport. If you complete 5 out the 10 activities on the passport you will receive a free prize. There will also be vendors on site selling food and drinks.

In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, Street Games may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made by 2pm on Friday, April 27, 2018 and will be  posted on the NYC Parks Department website and social media channels.

Thomas Jefferson Park is located at 114th Street and Pleasant Avenue in East Harlem.
