Purchase College Learn-to-Swim Program Adds Synchronized Swimming Classes

Purchase College Learn-to-Swim Program Adds Synchronized Swimming Classes

You’ll soon be able to learn the basics of synchronized swimming as well as a choreographed routine at Purchase College.

Purchase College Learn-to-Swim Program recently added synchronized swimming classes to their winter and spring offerings. The classes will be for children and adults who are level three or higher.

Artistic Swimming: An Intro to Synchronized Swimming will be held Jan. 28-March 10 for the winter session and March 11-May 6 for the spring session (no class March 31-April 8 for spring break).

“This combination of swimming, dancing, and gymnastics is a fun way to make you a better swimmer and improve your strength and flexibility,” says Chris Klint, director of aquatics. “We will start by learning the basics and end with choreographing a routine to music using your newfound skills.”

Purchase College Learn-to-Swim Program provides children and adults with year-round group, private, and specialty swim classes. American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim guidelines are used in all of the swim classes, which are taught by American Red Cross-trained Water Safety Instructors. The facilities used include a six-lane heated pool and a diving well.

Children’s group lessons are offered on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and on Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout the year. There is an additional Monday class in the upcoming spring session.

Children’s lessons include children and parent aquatics and learn-to-swim (levels 1-6). Adult lessons and aqua aerobics classes are offered on Sunday afternoons, and specialty classes such as beginner adult lessons, scuba diving, and springboard diving are offered on select Saturdays and Sundays.

Family swim (for Learn-to-Swim Program participants) is offered on select Saturdays and Sundays from 12-1pm, which gives families the opportunity to come practice their new skills all together.

“The Purchase College Learn-to-Swim Program was started to provide the community with high-quality swim instruction as well as employment for the college students who have become certified as Water Safety Instructors. We care that our swimming students have the best instruction possible,” Klint says.
