Art by NYC Public School Students Will Soon Be Displayed in Times Square

Twenty-seven works of art, part of P.S. Art on view at The Met, will soon be displayed on a giant billboard in Times Square.

On Tuesday, June 20 from 2-3pm the Time Square Advertising Coalition, along with The Metropolitan Museum of Art, will be displaying 27 works of art by New York City public school students in Times Square’s Military Island (43rd and 44th streets on Broadway) on the Clear Channel Spectacolor sign, according to a press release.

After the hour-long launch event on June 20 the images of the artwork will be displayed for four minutes every hour in Times Square from 12am on Wednesday, June 21 through Friday, June 23. The Time Square presentation is in collaboration with P.S. Art 2017: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids, which is a project of the New York City Department of Education, The Met, and Studio in a School Association. P.S. Art is an annual juried exhibition of artwork created by NYC public school students.

The 27 works of art to be displayed in Times Square are part of a larger exhibition at The Met, which is on view through Oct. 29. In its 10th season at The Met, P.S. Art also includes 76 additional works of art. In total the exhibition represents 105 students from pre-K through 12th grade in NYC public schools throughout the five boroughs, according to the press release.

It's no small honor to have your artwork displayed on a billboard in Times Square and The Met. The artwork in P.S. Art was chosen from more than 1,000 submissions. A jury including honored members of the art community and some of The Met staff made the final decisions.
