Michelle Obama's New Children's Cooking Show is Coming to Netflix

"Waffles + Mochi" will feature the former first lady alongside friendly puppet pals that discover, cook, and eat food from all over the world.

Michelle Obama's new children's cooking show "Waffles + Mochi" is premiering on Netflix on March 16. The show will follow Obama and her friendly puppet friends as they discover, cook, and eat food around the world. The show is being produced in collaborating with a Partnership for a Healthier America, which helps provide fresh ingredients to families during the pandemic.

The new children's show—which will premiere with 10 episodes—comes as the Obamas' production company 'Higher Ground' announces its exclusive partnership with Netflix to "produce scripted films, TV series, children's programs, and documentaries." Eight other projects—ranging from young adult series' to history-inspired features—are in the works, according to Vibe.

"We created Higher Ground to tell great stories. This group of projects builds upon that goal and the incredible path forged by films like Crip Camp, Becoming, and the Oscar-winning American Factory," the Obamas said in a Netflix press release. "From science fiction to the beauty of our natural world to the relationships that define us, Higher Ground continues to strive for fresh perspectives, compelling characters, and a healthy dose of inspiration. We couldn’t be more proud to team up with the brilliant artists behind each of these stories. Each of them has something important to say."

Michelle Obama has a track record of working to help children have better diets and nutrition, which we have seen through her Healthy Schools National School Lunch Program.  Ms. Obama tweeted on Tuesday morning that she is "excited to work with Partnership for Healthier America to help kids build healthy habits and help families in need cook with fresh ingredients together at home."
