NYC Babies Can Now Experience The Metropolitan Opera with BambinO

Bring your little one to experience an opera created just for them!

New York City kids really have it made; they get the latest and greatest in food, music, museums, and now opera. Many NYC parents (me included) believe it's never too early to expose your little ones to some culture. That's why I'm really loving BambinO at The Metropolitan Opera.

This "musical theater adventure" is geared toward babies 6-18 months old and features tons of music and interactive activities. The series of six performances start Monday April 30 and last 40 mins and there will be 25 babies permitted at each show. Also the performances are completely free!

Here is the full schedule of performances:

  • Monday, April 30, 2 pm
  • Tuesday, May 1, 10 am & 2 pm
  • Wednesday, May 2, 10 am & 2 pm
  • Thursday, May 3, 10 am & 2 pm
  • Friday, May 4, 10 am & 2 pm
  • Saturday, May 5, 9:45 am

The performances take place in the List Hall of The Metropolitan Opera House. Advance registration is required and families can do so by emailing [email protected]. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

One of the many wonderful things about these performances is that babies are encouraged to crawl around and even interact with performers. This is a great way to get your kids exposed to live theater at a young age.

“In the Met’s never-ending quest to develop audiences of the future, we’ve decided to start at the very beginning,” Peter Gelb, the Met’s general manager, said in a statement.

The Met is also making it super convenient for families by providing a place for strollers to be parked and adding changing tables to the restrooms just outside of List Hall. Babies can also be fed inside the hall and their are designated areas with couches and padded benches if you need some space.

The only rule is that the performances are geared toward babies and older siblings are not allowed to attend, the reason being that the, "Met hopes to create a space where babies can respond to the sounds and colors of the performance without interference from older children," states the website.

Be sure to register now, this unique event is sure to get booked up fast!
