Here's our guide to indoor play spaces, bounce houses, and sports centers in the New York area complete with their adjusted hours and COVID-19 precautions.


UPDATED DECEMBER 2020: If you're considering taking your kids to one of New York's many indoor play spaces, bounce houses, and sports centers to get the sillies out this winter, make sure you use our guide before leaving the house. The indoor play spaces that are open are doing everything they can to keep your kids safe while having fun.  While many of these spaces normally offer open play with no reservations required, we recommend calling ahead to make sure there is availability with the capacity limits resulting from COVID-19. 

Indoor Play Spaces in Manhattan

Apple Seeds - Currently closed.

Apple Seeds is a family-operated play center with two locations in Manhattan. The play center boasts a sports playground with basketball nets, soft gym equipment, and nine permanent NYC-themed exhibits to ensure safe, age-appropriate activities for ages newborn to 5 years.

The Art Farm

What you need to know: Are you a family of animal lovers? If so, be sure to head over to The Art Farm, a unique indoor petting zoo. Kids will be able to get close to all sorts of animals—including guinea pigs, lizards, turtles, and bunnies—learn about them, and have fun while doing it. The Art Farm also offers music, cooking, and art programs for children ages 6 months to 8 years, as well as in-person and virtual preschool.

Billy Beez - Temporarily closed.

Billy Beez is a fantastic indoor adventure playground where your children can play safely and securely whatever the weather. The 25,000-square-foot play area complete with wave slides, obstacle courses, and more, will ensure that all their energy will be used up at the arena and not at home.

Chelsea Piers - Programs currently unavailable.

Drop-in activities are available for children of all ages, including a Toddler Gym with open play equipment for ages 4 and younger; open hockey, soccer, rock climbing, basketball, and ice-skating; and a class for preschoolers called CP Champs with activities including gymnastics, trampoline, and foam pit play.

The Gaga Center - Temporarily closed.

Gaga is a fast-paced, high-energy sport played in an octagonal pit. Dubbed a kinder, gentler version of dodgeball, the game is played with a soft foam ball and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees. Open gaga sessions are here when you need them: holidays, conference days, days off, snow days, and other “what should we do today” days! Sessions are 1 hour.

The Playroom NYC

What you need to know: Upon arrival you’ll have your temperature taken and will fill out a healthcare questionnaire. Only 10 kids and one adult allowed per open play slot. Masks required. The Playroom will close in between open play slots for 30-minute intervals to sanitize the space. See the full list of COVID-19 precautions on the Playroom NYC’s website. The space features an indoor climbing structure, a toddler room, and a pretend play area. Kids 5 and younger are welcome.

Indoor Play Spaces in Brooklyn

Kids will love the numerous inflatables, while parents will love the early weekend hours. It also offers a Cosmic Open Bounce when kids can jump around in the dark. It’s a great way to burn off some much needed steam. Reservations are recommended.

Juguemos a Cantar

What to Know: Children and staff are required to wear masks at all times. Groups do outdoor activities as often as possible. Staff are tested for COVID-19 on a biweekly basis. See website for a full description of Juguemos a Cantar’s COVID-19 protocol.
Jueguemos a Cantar is a great place for budding bilinguists to learn and play in Spanish. Offers camp and after-school programs, as well as other services such as virtual classes.

Kids N’ Action

What to Know: Masks and social distancing required. Surfaces are wiped down after each use. Arcade games get wiped down every 20 minutes, and the ventilation system has been upgraded. Call for the full COVID-19 protocols.
Drop by to play in the four-level playground, with activities geared toward younger kids at the lower level and older kids at the higher levels. There are also arcade games, a go-kart track, and an indoor roller coaster.

PLAY Greenpoint

This place has it all. The 3,000-square-foot space is full of imaginative toys, musical instruments, and books. Not to mention the playground structures and beautiful murals, which give the feeling of being outdoors. Drop-ins cost $22 for one child and $11 for additional siblings.

Prospect Gymnastics

Prospect Gymnastics is a developmental gymnastics program for children. Kids can walk on the balance beam, tumble, swing on the uneven bars, and bounce on the trampoline during open play sessions. They’ll feel like they scored a perfect 10! Birthday parties are offered.

Recess DUMBO

What to Know: Recess DUMBO is offering limited capacity pla, private play dates, learning pods, and birthday parties. Temperature checks will be performed upon arrival. Guests are not permitted to eat at Recess right now.
Recess is a unique play space that offers flexible hours. Its custom-made play structures are designed for curious minds and busy bodies to explore.

Twinkle Play Space - Temporarily closed.

Twinkle is a family-owned and -operated indoor play space. The 4,500-square-foot facility has innovative custom-made exhibits to cater to any child’s wildest imagination. The space is designed for kids ages 6 and younger.

Artistic Stitch Sports Complex

This sports complex offers drop-ins for older kids who want to spend the day playing sports. They can choose from baseball, soccer, basketball, and rock climbing.

Good Day Play Café - Temporarily closed.

Part play space and part café, you can relax with a cup of Stumptown coffee, fresh juice, or finger foods while your child plays on an angled climbing wall, a ball pit, matted area with sensory toys, and a Hinoki cypress wood cube pit.

Dream City

What you need to know: Masks must be worn at all times for adults and kids ages 2 and older. Dream City is currently providing support for online learning, and is open for open play or parties on the weekends, with cluster restrictions. Dream City opened recently in Forest Hills and offers open play, classes, special events and parties. It aims to create a fun and safe learning environment that sparks curiosity while encouraging social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.

Kids Fun House - Temporarily closed.

Kids Fun House is family-owned and -operated and has an awesome “triple slide,” as well as mazes and tunnels for kids to explore. There is also a separate toddler area for younger children.

Kids 'N Shape - Not offering play at this time.

What to Know: For birthday parties and private play sessions, guests are required to wear masks at all times, a limited number of guests are permitted, and temperature checks will be performed.
The open play sessions at Kids ‘N Shape feature an exclusive variety of interactive fitness attractions designed to improve your children’s motor skills and engage them in physical activity. Its uniquely unstructured open play is a healthy alternative to video games while providing a safe, clean, and supervised environment. Two-hour fitness play open sessions cost $12 per child.

Raising Astoria - Temporarily closed.

Raising Astoria is a local favorite and the facility is a great space for open play. The staff at Raising Astoria encourages kids to run, jump, and play. Activities are designed to engage and educate children.  

Sabrina’s Play Studio - Temporarily closed.

Palisades Climb Adventure

Palisades Climb Adventure boasts that it is the world’s tallest indoor ropes course, standing 85 feet tall, and featuring five levels with 75 unique challenge elements including the Sky Tykes kids’ ropes course, designed for children shorter than 48 inches.

Screamin’ Parties - Temporarily closed.

Admission to the museum includes the indoor play areas, Tot Spot and Climb It. At Tot Spot, kids can play pretend in the train, grocery store, or construction site. Meanwhile, kids can ascend the two-story climbing sculpture that is Climb It.

Long Island’s Laser Bounce - Temporarily closed.

Wood Kingdom is a huge indoor and outdoor yard-play and gardening store at which children can play on showroom samples. It also has rooms with inflatable bouncers and laser-tag areas down the block. Open play is Monday-Friday, 10am-4pm.

Open Jump times can be reserved by purchasing tickets online for either 1-, 1½-, or 2-hour play times. Adults and/or legal guardians must sign an online liability waiver before their children can participate, and must purchase Air Grip Socks for safety and hygiene precautions.

Safari Adventure - Temporarily closed.

Open Play features a four-level, 20-foot-tall soft playground, giant bouncy houses, climbing, slides, a hands-on sensory area, and more than 30 video games for children ages 1-10. The activity center has a trading post for kids to trade in tickets from the games for prizes. Open Play is offered every day from 10am-7pm.

Sandbox Playspace - Temporarily closed.

Handcrafted toys will be available for kids to play with Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm, and Saturday, 10am-1pm, for drop-in playtime. Adults and children must wear socks in the predominantly wooden play space. It's recommended for ages 5 and younger.

StrikeForce Sports

Kids ages 10 and older can play airsoft indoors during one of StrikeForce Sport’s public sessions, available every week. These range from 4-5 hours long. The indoor arena has large overhead lights, a surround sound system for music, and realistic sound effects during the games.

Tumbling Tunes

What to Know: Temperature checks and masks required, except for kids who are actively participating in certain activities. See website for full COVID-19 protocols. While Open Play is not offered at this time, children can participate in classes, preschool, and summer camps. Some classes offered include gymnastics for kids ages 5-8, music for babies, and music and gymnastics for toddlers.
