House of Sports’ New Owners Expand Offerings

House of Sports, which offers after-school and weekend sports classes and sports leagues for kids in Westchester, is now under new ownership, and is expanding its sports offerings for kids.

House of Sports changed hands in August, and many new developments are slated for this coming year. Expanding the Tots Learn-to-Play program has been one of the biggest priorities for the new ownership, says Frank Lombardy, general manager. Children ages 18 months to 6 years—soon expanding to 8-year-olds—can learn a sport in entry-level classes without pressure or feeling intimidated by older players. These classes typically run weekdays from 10am-3pm.

Another goal for the new owners is to offer a more inclusive, community-based, and outside-user-friendly facility open to outside group programming and space rentals. Additionally, the Café is adding more healthful options, such as fresh salads and hummus and chips, to reflect the healthy lifestyle that House of Sports promotes.

House of Sports is also extending its birthday party bookings by offering more flexible weekday and holiday time options. Parties typically include 1 hour on the turf or court with coaches, referees, and all equipment, followed by 30 minutes in the party room. All the parent needs to bring is the cake—and the kids.

The majority of classes and team practices take place weekdays after 4pm, and weekends.  House of Sports offers soccer, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse, as well as performance training for older athletes. Ideally, kids should sign up at the beginning of the semester-long courses, but enrollment may begin at any time at a prorated cost.

Management recommends online registration for classes, and aims to keep instructor-to-athlete ratio low. The website features a program finder, which filters classes by age, sport, and time.
