Help Crayola Name Its Newest Crayon and Win a Trip to Orlando

Crayola is adding a new color to its box and needs your help to name it.

Back in March, Crayola retired the Dandelion crayon from its collection with a formal retirement ceremony in Times Square, and shared that a member of the blue family would be taking its place. On May 5, Crayola announced it is holding a contest for people across North America to help name the color, according to a press release

The new shade of blue is called YInMn Blue, a pigment discovered by chemist Mas Subramanian and his team at Oregon State University in 2009.

"We are a company all about kids, creativity, and color, so we strive to keep our color palette innovative and on-trend, which is why we're excited to introduce a new blue crayon color inspired by the YInMn pigment," Smith Holland, CEO and president of Crayola, said in a statement. "The new blue crayon color will help Crayola to continue to inspire kids and kids at heart, to create everything imaginable."

Anyone interested in entering can visit the Crayola website to submit name suggestions now through June 2. Those who submit name ideas will be entered for a chance to win one of four weekly prizes, according to the press release. The only requirements are that you must be 13 years or older and that the name cannot be a current Crayola color. It might be a challenge, but you'll get multiple tries.

On July 1, the top five names will be shared online so people can choose their favorite and view real-time, daily voting results. Couldn't think of a name? There are prizes for voting, too. Those who vote will be entered to win one of six grand prizes for an all-expense paid trip for four to the Orlando Crayola Experience. A Crayola Air Marker Sprayer will also be given out as a daily prize.

Crayola will unveil the fan-selected blue crayon name and the six grand prize winners in early September, according to the press release. The yet-to-be-named blue crayon will hit the shelves in late 2017 through early 2018.
