American Girl Resale Boutique to Host In-Store Activities This Fall

Girl AGain boutique in White Plains is hosting in-store events this fall, including author readings, tea parties, and craft activities.

Many of the events are inspired by the stories of historical American Girl dolls, which are then used to teach as well as encourage creativity.

A popular event, Doll Hair Do’s and Don’ts, teaches children to properly care for their dolls, a skill set that has been perfected by the trainees who clean and repair donations.

Girl AGain boutique sells refurbished American Girl dolls, clothes, books, and furniture and is operated by the non-profit organization Yes She Can Inc., which uniquely aims to  “help develop transferable job skills for young women with autism,” said founder Marjorie Madfis.

Through sorting, cleaning, pricing, and displaying the merchandise, the trainees at Girl AGain learn about “marketing, merchandising, retailing, customer service, and inventory acquisition in addition to appropriate workplace behavior, research, collaboration and decision-making,” said Madfis.

Madfis says that the goal of the shop, in addition to providing opportunities for young women with autism, is for customers to have the greatest experience possible all while learning “about acceptance and inclusion of people with disabilities.”
