Galli Theater New York Moves to Midtown

Galli Theater New York Moves to Midtown

You can soon watch ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’ at Galli Theater New York.

Galli Theater New York, a nonprofit children's theater organization, moved to a new location in Midtown in October. The theater puts on at least 10 live theatrical productions a year. Each performance puts a modern spin on popular fairy tales from around the world.

Galli Theater New York’s new travel performance program also kicked off in October. It brings live shows into children's homes and other locations for birthday parties and special events. Parents can choose from a variety of fairy tales to be performed. Each show is an hour long and includes a serenade of “Happy Birthday” to the birthday child by the actors and guests.

“We want to be convenient for people by bringing the shows to them,” says Barbara Remus, managing director of Galli Theater New York. “All the shows are interactive, and the children are invited on stage at the end.”

Upcoming shows for the public at Galli Theater New York’s new location include Snow Queen (Dec. 2-23) and Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (early 2018). All shows are held on weekends at 2pm.

Galli Theater New York offers classes, workshops, and camps year-round that help children gain self-confidence and improve their acting skills. Registration is now open for holiday camps held Dec. 26-29; Feb. 19-23, 2018; and April 2-6, 2018.

In addition to its on-site and travel shows, Galli Theater New York runs the ongoing Dr. Fairytale program that brings performances into hospitals to serve children who would otherwise not be able to see theater. Several Dr. Fairytale performances take place each month. The program is completely funded by donations.

Galli theaters and training facilities—founded by philosopher, actor, and playwright Johannes Galli—can be found around the world in countries including Germany and China. Each location operates independently.
