Flower Picking in the New York Area

Tulip season is upon us! Here's where you can pick your own fresh tulips near NYC.

As the weather gets warmer, we can look forward to a slew of outdoor activities that we've all been missing throughout the winter. Why not spruce up your home with some freshly picked flowers? While many flowers at pick-your-own farms, including sunflowers, are not available until early summer, tulips are ready to blossom in mid-April and May.

Please be aware that tulips bloom quickly. Many farms have a limited time frame of only a few weeks to pick them. We recommend planning your day trip to pick tulips soon in order to take advantage of this special spring activity.

The following farms offer tulip festivals and pick-your-own opportunities. All of the farms listed below are located within 100 miles or less of New York City by car. Plan to dress your kids in closed toe shoes in order to make the visit comfortable for all. Get ready to tiptoe through the tulips and celebrate the changing of the seasons!

Price: $12-16; U-pick tulips cost $2 per stem.
Dalton Farms’ Walk-Thru U-Pick Tulip season runs until April 1- 23. The farm is located approximately 100 miles from New York City. If you plan your visit for a weekend, the farm features food vendors and wine tasting.

Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market

The Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market is located approximately 80 miles from New York City. This farm was started in 2001 by environmental advocates, Chris and Eve Kaplan-Walbrecht. There are many family friendly activities onsite including a play area. The farm is available for private birthday parties. If you plan to take professional photographs, the photographer should submit a photo shoot application. More information can be found here.

Holland Ridge Farms

Price: $15. Free for kids 2 and younger. U-pick tulips cost $1 per stem.
Holland Ridge Farms includes 60 acres of flowers. New for 2023, weekday picnics are back. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks to the farm Monday-Friday during tulip festival.

Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden

Price: Tickets can only be purchased at the gate.
The Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden is located less than 100 miles from New York City. The Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden planted over 500,000 tulips and other spring flowers this year for families to enjoy. Other attractions include mini golf, tractor pedal cars, and barnyard animals. If you plan your visit for a weekend, the farm features live music and food vendors. This is a pet friendly farm, so bring your dog as long as they are on a leash. The Waterdrinker Family Farm and Garden will host a tulip festival, which will take place for 4-5 weeks beginning on April 17, but does not offer pick-your-own opportunities at this time. If you plan to take professional photographs, there is no additional fee for photographers.
