Visiting Citi Field With Kids

The Amazin' Mets offer so much more than baseball!

Baseball season has officially started and that means our favorite hometown heroes are back. Catching a game with my boys is one of our favorite things to do during the Spring and Summer. Citi Field, home to the New York Mets, is an incredibly kid-friendly stadium and offers a number of great amenities in the way of food, fun, and activities.

Citi Field is located in Flushing and is easily accessible via the 7 train (it has its own stop!). Upon arriving you will be greeted by the famous home run apple that lived at Shea Stadium for many, many years. Here are some other things to experience at Citi Field with kids.

Citi Field Food

I'm a Mets fan through and through, but in all honesty I go to Citi Field for the food. There are so many food options that would suit any appetite! Kids will enjoy the usual hot dogs, popcorn, and pretzels, or kids' meals at section 121 for $7, but why not step it up with a visit to Shake Shack for burgers, Papa Rosso or Two Boots for pizza, or Fuku for chicken sandwiches? New for 2018 are Lil Sweet Chick where you can get chicken and waffles, Baked Cheese Haus for bratwurst, and Chomp Donut Co., for mini donuts. You can also grab nachos, steak sandwiches, and kosher and gluten-free snacks. Pretty much goes without saying, but make sure to come hungry!

Citi Field's Good Humor Fan Fest

You can work up an appetite or work off some of the delicious food you're sure to indulge in at the Good Humor Fan Fest. Here kids can snap a photo with Mr. and Mrs. Met, try their hands at batting practice and run some mini-bases, and test their pitching skills at a dunk tank. All of these activities are open until the middle of the 7th inning, so you can take a break and explore if your little ones start to get antsy. All of the attractions are free with your ticket.

Citi Field's Family Sundays

Even if you're not a Met's fan or baseball fan in general, taking a trip to Citi Field during a Family Sunday is totally worth it. Starting at 11am families can arrive to take part in some great activities including bounce houses, face painting, sign making, balloon artists, and live music and performances. The fun doesn't stop once the game is over either. Children 12 and younger can take part in the Mr. Met Dash and run the bases just like the major leaguers! Simply line up outside the Bullpen entrance and you will be lead in once the stadium clears out. We have done this twice and it's a memory you will cherish forever.

Other tips for visiting Citi Field:

  • Kids can join the Mr. Met's Kids Club ($55 or $35) and receive some neat perks such as, complimentary tickets, free scoreboard message, a bag, pencil case, and bookmark, as well as priority entrance to the Mr. Met Dash.
  • There are 15 Family Restrooms at Citi Field and changing tables in all bathrooms.
  • Children under 32" are admitted free.
  • Parking is available and costs $25.

Citi Field is located at 120-01 Roosevelt Ave. in Flushing. For more information visit mlb.com/mets/ballpark.

Admission: Tickets start at $15 per person (children 32" and under are free). Get tickets here.
