Diaper Bank Opens on Long Island

Diaper Bank Opens on Long Island

Allied Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Allied Physicians Group, has opened a diaper bank in Plainview to help families in need living in Nassau and Suffolk counties.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14 a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house were held to celebrate the new diaper bank on Long Island. Now the Allied Foundation is calling upon the community to donate diapers to help parents and babies of low-income families in the area.

The diaper bank of Long Island is at Pediatric Health Associates, located at 100 Manetto Hill in Plainview. Collected diapers will be distributed through The Interfaith Nutrition Network in Nassau County as well as The Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Suffolk County.

You can drop off diapers your children have grown out of or no longer need, even if the package is open. Don't have any diapers at home but still want to give back? Head to the store and keep an eye out for sales. Just don't throw unused diapers out—even just a few can make a difference in a family's life.

"Children in low-income families are at greatest risk of suffering the effects of diaper need because many families can't afford diapers," according to a statement issued by the Allied Foundation, which hopes to minimize the effects of diaper need on Long Island.

Allied Physicians Group recently opened up a breast milk depot in Rockland County, where one can donate and receive breast milk. "This milk is a medicine to many infants and life-saving to preemies," says Julie Bouchet-Horwitz, founder and executive director of the New York Milk Bank.

Allied Physicians Group is a partnership of over 120 physicians and 500 support staff members who serve 150,000 patients in the greater NYC, Long Island, and Hudson Valley areas. The Allied Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded by Allied Physicians Group with a mission to improve the health and well-being of those in the community.
