A New DeCicco & Sons Store Is Now Open in Somers

The specialty supermarket will span 20,000 feet and will offer outdoor seating, signature prepared food, fresh baked goods, fresh sushi, and more.

DeCicco & Sons already had seven locations in New York before opening an eighth in Somers on May 3. This location, located at 266 Route 202, will be the largest of all eight stores and offer everything the specialty supermarket chain’s customers have come to love, like fresh seafood delivered daily, homemade baked goods, fresh food stations like a salad bar, hot food bar and antipasti bar, a coffee and juice bar, freshly prepared sushi, and more. The Somers market will ban the use of single-use plastic bags like all other DeCicco & Sons locations–that were the first supermarket chain to do so in the state. Special offers will be available on products throughout the store to celebrate opening day.

This Somers location will also contain new sustainability-focused features like advanced, energy-efficient LED lighting, motion sensors to reduce electricity usage during times of low occupancy and reclaimed heat from the refrigeration system to “dramatically reduce the use of natural gas,” according to DeCicco & Sons.

Beyond this features, inside the store shoppers can find a bar serving 32 craft beers, a new kitchen and catering space, comfortable couches and seating, and an outdoor balcony seating space to enjoy food and coffee or juice. The store has been designed to be more than a place to shop, says CEO John DeCicco Jr.: "We want our stores to be comfortable and inviting, as well as convenient.”

The store’s décor will feature work from local artists and pay homage to Somers’ connection to the Barnum & Bailey Circus–an early Somers resident, Hachaliah Bailey, once owned the traveling show–through artwork and design.

DeCicco & Sons was originally supposed to open the Somers location in January, but had to postpone due to circumstances outside of its control. The store has said it can’t wait to be part of the Somers community.
