Sunshine Alternative Education Center Held 'Graduation and Moving Forward' Ceremony to Celebrate Positive Change

Sunshine Alternative Education Center (SAEC) held its 'Graduation and Moving Forward' ceremony on June 8. The ceremony was a special time to thank supporters of SAEC and recognize the students who made so many positive changes in their lives. It was also an opportunity for visitors to learn more about Sunshine and the work they do in local communities.

SAEC started in 2005 to address the needs of youth on long-term suspension. Through the years the program grew and began servicing a variety of students who had not been successful in their home district for various reasons.

SAEC brings together the academic instruction with prevention. They utilize various prevention strategies that are designed to build positive social/life skills while teaching alternatives to substance use/abuse and violence. This includes individual and group counseling, prevention workshops, weekly field trips and guest speakers.

The goal is to help the students succeed both academically and socially and help them make better choices for their future.

Drug use and abuse has devastated countless communities and many people have lost loved ones as a result. Standing faithful to it's mission, Sunshine will be providing over 30 summer sponsorships this year to children and families in need, specifically those who were affected by a loved one's drug use or abuse.
